Cleaning Tips for Viruses and Bacteria

During this pandemic, we’ve all committed to washing our hands, keeping six feet apart, and wearing masks when needed, but what about protecting our homes? It’s important to keep our spaces as germ- and virus-free as possible. Here are some CDC-approved tips to make sure your home is as safe and comfortable as can be.

Clean commonly touched surfaces daily

While not every virus is transmitted through surfaces, it’s still important to keep the surfaces and objects we touch most often clean and germ-free. In the same way that we shouldn’t touch our faces to avoid transferring bacteria on our hands, we should keep the things we touch often clean. Doorknobs, handles, light switches, and other things we grab should be wiped down daily.

Clean high-use areas often

It’s not always possible to do a whole house cleaning every day, however much we may (or may not!) want to. But there are some areas that should be prioritized. Spaces like bathrooms, where germs and viruses can easily spread, should be cleaned whenever possible, as well as commonly used surfaces like

Clean your screens

For most of us, our phones are an item we always have in our hand or within reach. That means they’re extra likely to carry and transfer germs and viruses. It’s important to wipe down your phone screen, especially after being outside, once you’ve come into contact with someone, or following any activity with risk of germ or virus exposure. The same goes for laptops, keyboards, remote controls, or any other kind of touch screen.

Wash your hands (and your Handee Pockets!)

We’ve all learned the importance of washing your hands often. One time that handwashing is absolutely necessary is following a cleanup task, especially if you were cleaning a potentially contaminated area. Your Handee Pockets only need a rinse with water following use, but your hands need warm water, soap, and 20 seconds of washing.

Do laundry

No more excuses for putting off laundry day! The washing machine, especially with detergent or soap and on a warmer setting, can be very effective in eliminating viruses and bacteria on clothing, towels, and other soft and porous materials. And after a few big cleanups, you may want to throw in your Handee Pockets, too – a cycle with a bit of  detergent is all you need.

All it takes to be safe is a bit of diligence and some cleaning power! All you need to deep clean is your Handee Pockets and some water, and you’ll be on your way to staying safe and well at home.
