As the holidays approach us, we’re all wondering how we can balance safety and family. This Thanksgiving may look a little different than others, but it’s still filled with just as much of the spirit of togetherness, giving, and love – even more so as we work to keep those we care about healthy and safe!
Here are some tips on how to celebrate Thanksgiving without the risk.
Enjoy festivities with your immediate family
The safest way to celebrate the season is with the people you already live with! There is absolutely no increased risk to spending extra-festive time with those you already spend your time with. The party may be a little bit smaller, but you can still enjoy all the normal traditions (and delicious feasts) you’d have any other year.
Celebrate virtually
Although you might not be able to invite over all the extended family and loved ones you would on a typical year, you can still see them all! Having a video call can ensure you can still live out your holiday traditions, like having everyone go around and say what they’re thankful for. Moments of gratitude and time with loved ones mean more than ever this year, and that doesn’t have to change because of smaller, safer gatherings!
If you do attend a gathering…
While staying home is safest, there are ways to make going to someone else’s home less risky. Wearing a mask (and safely storing it while you eat), bringing your own food and dishes, staying in one place (no going in and out of the kitchen!), and using single-use and disposable items can go a long way in ensuring everyone’s safety.
If you do host a gathering…
Outside is still safest, so weather permitting, you may want to tell everyone to wear their warmest sweater and enjoy the last days of fall! If this isn’t possible, keeping windows open, limiting the guest list (and run time!), and having guests bring their own food and utensils can do wonders. Don’t forget to clean as frequently as you can, especially high-touch spots like doorknobs! Your Handee Pockets are ready to celebrate, too.
Spread the giving spirit
For some people in your community, this holiday may be a little lonelier than others. Safely preparing Thanksgiving dishes and treats and leaving them on the porches of neighbors, loved ones, and those in need can make a big difference in their holiday, without making a difference in their risk level.
